The Northern Ballet

The Northern Ballet for their 50th anniversary year

Northern Ballet is regarded as one of the world’s premier ballet companies. With a mission to make high quality ballet accessible to everyone, they are committed to creating new productions and touring widely, performing to audiences throughout the UK. The Leeds-based Company, under the directorship of David Nixon OBE, is also much in demand internationally and has most recently performed in China and the UAE. Northern Ballet’s passion is to create work that is innovative and surprising, offering audiences something other than traditional ballet titles.

Having sponsored Northern Ballet since 2015, Kleinwort Hambros is delighted to continue its support of the Company for the fifth year running, as they mark their 50th anniversary in 2020. We will be hosting three client events in 2020 in Leeds, Edinburgh and London.

Alongside the creation of award-winning ballet for stage and screen, Northern Ballet shares the joy of dance with over 50,000 people in the UK each year through their learning and community outreach activities.  Working with research partners, their pioneering research-led programmes will demonstrate the transformative power of dance in relation to education, health, wellbeing and social mobility.

Northern Ballet is committed to discovering, inspiring and nurturing creative talent for the future. The Academy of Northern Ballet’s Spotted! Programme, which identifies and trains talented young dancers through workshops in schools and in the community, is just one of the many ways Northern Ballet is securing a sustainable, inclusive future for dance.  The Company are also working with emerging artists in dance and film to explore the ways ballet can be presented outside of the theatre setting. Their original dance films have been met with international acclaim: Silenced(a collaboration between Northern Ballet Coryphée Gavin McCaig and filmmaker Joseph Haskey) has been named Best Dance Short at the New Renaissance Film Festival in London and Spree, (created by former dancer Dreda Blow and filmmaker Eleanor Williams), was selected to be part of the San Francisco Dance Film Festival in California. To find out more and watch, visit their new digital dance platform.

Northern Ballet’s 50th Anniversary Programme will include three world premières, a star-studded Gala and tours of some of their best-loved productions. We wish them all the best for their 50th anniversary year and look forward to celebrating with them at our client events in London and across the UK as they mark this significant milestone.
